Behind the Bar Rail: Simple Syrup

What is Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is one of the most straightforward ingredients to make and can provide a bitter cocktail mix with a soothing touch. It takes two things. Are you ready? Sugar. Water And a little heat. Ok, that’s three things but pretty much anybody can make it. Despite it being so easy to make, it is still one of the most essential ingredients to have on hand either at home or at the bar. Simple syrup can be used in anything liquified such as coffee, or tea. It isn't bound to just be put in cocktails! Because the sugar has been liquified it is easier to put into cold drinks. No more having to worry about sugar crystals dancing around the drink. Unless you have a muddler of course.

Simple Syrup Infusions

The best part is once the sugar and water have become one in holy matrimony they can be infused to make different tasting simple syrups! Add a cinnamon stick, spices, fruit, ginger, vanilla, the list goes on. Infuse some jalapeños to give a smoky mezcal a sweet kick! There is nothing simple syrup can’t do. Make sure to stir it in well!
