Is Responsible Alcohol Server Training Required in Kentucky
Kentucky alcohol server-seller training is recommended by the state of Kentucky, but on the state level, it is not required. The exception is cases where the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Cabinet requires businesses that have broken liquor laws to take either the City of Bowling Green approved, Lexington-Fayette approved, or Star Training. However, many municipalities will require staff members of bars, restaurants, and other businesses with on-premises liquor licenses to take Kentucky alcohol certification training.
The City of Bowling Green requires alcohol server training with an ABC-approved server training program like our Kentucky course. The course must be completed within 30 days of the first date of employment.
The City of Lexington-Fayette also requires approved server training from an approved training provider like Serving Alcohol for those who sell or serve alcoholic beverages.
Other municipalities require the Kentucky ABC's Server Training in Alcohol Regulations (STAR) instead. To be certain, check with your local city clerk's office to be sure you're meeting the requirements where you live.
