South Carolina’s new alcohol server law, H.3430, is now in effect as of May 1, 2026. It requires every individual who serves, sells, mixes, or supervises the service of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption to obtain a valid South Carolina Alcohol Server Permit.
What this means for South Carolina servers and managers
If you work at least 10 hours per week serving alcohol for on-premises consumption, or you manage staff who do, you must complete an approved alcohol server training program. New hires must be trained within 30 days of starting. Approved training is a minimum four-hour course covering South Carolina alcohol laws, checking IDs, recognizing signs of intoxication, and related topics, with a monitored final exam. Server permits are valid for three years from the date of issuance.
Establishments that do not have certified staff can face fines of $500 per uncertified server per inspection, so compliance is an employer issue as well as an individual one.
If you still need to complete your training, you can do it through our South Carolina alcohol server training course.
